New Yorkers born after 9/11: ‘I know it was tragic, but I don’t have many more details’

“What were you doing when the planes crashed into the Twin Towers?” It is a question that has marked several generations. Almost everyone who was old enough in 2001 remembers the moment they were glued to the television watching images they would never forget. Now, for the first time, there is an entire generation of around 100 million Americans with no memory at all of that day, simply because they had not yet been born on September 11, 2001. The United States now faces the challenge of passing on the memory to people who cannot draw on personal experience but must rely on what their parents or teachers tell them.
